"An Alien Among Us"

My friend and fellow 'Found Object' mixed media artist, Betsy Halford, and I have both found several of these little aluminum caps somewhere on the ground, smashed to the point of resembling little alien faces. Betsy helped me create this one, complete with his glowing crystal eyes, creepy dangling arms and his own personal flying saucer (a roller blade wheel), while we were doing our "Re-Use, Re-Cycle…Re-Create!" show at On the Edge Gallery last month. We had a big tray full of the 'junk' people were donating and Betsy kept digging through it, finding potential "out of this world" body parts for my alien creature. Isn't he just cute and creepy at the same time? I call him "An Alien Among Us". This is a found object mixed media sculpture priced at $35. The work is available at On the Edge Gallery or JaneNassano.com.

The Fine Line Between Creative Genius and Insanity

Whew!  I've been so busy trying to finish my mosaic clock and get ready for our 3 Woman Show (Re-Use, Re-Cycle….Re-Create!) at On the Edge Gallery (last weekend) that I haven't taken the time to even snap some pictures of the clock 'in progress'!  So, here it is…. all finished!

And, I finished it the night before the show (after several all-nighters :-) so it became my centerpiece.  The show went well, we got lots of publicity so tons of people came, especially on opening night. We advertised that if people donated some 'junk' to us, they could get a raffle ticket to win original art and so a lot of people brought in bags and boxes full of interesting things.  So fun going thru it all at the end of the show, figuring out which one of us could do something creative with each thing, one by one!  Thanks to all who came, purchased and donated cool stuff!

This clock (17"w x 25"h x 7"d) is titled "The Fine Line Between Creative Genius and Insanity". It is a mixed-media mosaic mantle clock priced at $1,200.00. It is available at www.JaneNassano.com or www.OnTheEdgeGallery.com.

Angel of Mercy and Transformation

This lovely angel is made from all things random. I wish I knew what the curvy metal piece is from that makes up the bottom of her (dress/tail)? Perhaps part of an old Victorian gas lamp...? Her wings are made of shards of broken glass from an old, big box TV screen. Didn't know that glass was purple, did you? And, now she can fly...talk about transformation! $85 at On the Edge Gallery.

3 Woman Show! "Re-Use, Re-Cycle….Re-Create!"

Getting the word out about our 3 woman show "Re-Use, Re-Cycle….Re-Create!

Opening March 16th for Artwalk, 6-9pm through March 18th at 5pm at On the Edge Gallery, 7050 E. 5th Avenue, Scottsdale, AZ / 480-265-8991.

Featuring Mixed Media / Found Object artists:

We'll each be giving away an original work of art, but only those who bring us donations of junk, broken things, rusty metal, jewelry, buttons, anything from your junk drawer, to use in our artwork, will be given raffle tickets for a chance to win!

Dangerous Garden I & II

These 2 rusty little container gardens are mounted on old bed springs and are overflowing with 'dangerous' shards of glass, mirror, rusty nails, screws and saw blades.  They are a tribute to an old friend and fellow artist, Tim Hunter from Alamosa, Colorado.  Many years ago he created his own, original 'Dangerous Garden', full size in front of his house, complete with real  blades, sharp tools and bullets mounted to curly wires planted in the ground.  Was there ever a doubt in your mind that we artists are a strange breed?

"Angel of Joy with Torch Light"

This is my latest angel, "Angel of Joy with Torch Light".  See the 'torch' in front of her on the side view?  She is made from a polished slice of geode for her dress/wings, an antique drawer pull for her head, a metal corner from an antique picture frame, maybe (?) for her uplifted arms and a rusty metal bracket of some kind for her body. She has a simple beauty to her and was created specially as a birthday gift for my mother-in-law this week. I love it when pieces come out like this!

Got Junk?

This is the logo and a small portion of the press release I created for a group show I'm doing in March with my fellow 'Found Object/Mixed Media' artists at On the Edge Gallery, Vickie Morrow and Betsy Halford. We all 'collect' things (aka 'junk') for our artwork, so the kicker for the show is that visitors have to bring us their 'junk', and donate it to our art-making cause in order to get a raffle ticket for a chance to win a piece of original art from any of us. So, as the trucks on the 'Buried Alive' Hoarders TV show says… "Got Junk?"
