"Work in Progress - Need a name…. any ideas?"

I found this old piece of pressed tin in a junk shop and immediately wanted to start hanging things from it, in a beaded curtain sort of way. It even had holes drilled in it already. (a sign!)  Some of my hanging strands of 'found objects', pieces of junk and memorabilia, will eventually intertwine with the others, hopefully making a very interesting wall hanging.  Here are some photos in progress….  I do need a title though.  Can you help?

#1)  It's about 4' wide and 8" high.

#2)  Detail.

#3)  In progress.

#4)  Feathers, paintbrush, broken jewelry.  Attaching certain things to other things is the hardest part!

#5)  I was so excited when I found this broken half of a bracelet on the ground in an alley.  This is my favorite strand so far.

#6)  Detail. Happy Star of David.

#7)  People give me the coolest, random things…. enamel kitty earrings HAVE to be from the 1980's!

#8)  This is a mini cast iron frying pan, and a little locket I put gemstones in, hanging from a bike chain.  Nope…. no rhyme or reason.  It's all visual.

#9)  An old, rusty drill bit.  The beginning of a strand.  Stay tuned, watch it progress and help me with a name….. I'm thinking something about little pieces of the world….something from everywhere….

"Mermaid Lure"

I love this little piece!  Isn't she pretty?  She started out as an angel, with the wings of broken crystal, but then I added an actual fishing lure, which moves, so she can  swim!  With the blue-green ceramic pieces added to her 'tail', she has scales.  Sea shells and abalone, make this mermaid a true underwater angel!

"Mermaid Lure" is Mixed Media and Found Objects measuring 6"H. x 4"W priced at $65. It is available at On the Edge Gallery or direct from the artist at jnassano@cox.net.

"Here I Come, Bringing Love!"

This angel has wings of perfectly broken (by accident) china, mounted to pieces of an old drawer pull, that give the illusion she really can fly(!) right into your heart!

"Here I Come, Bringing Love!" is Mixed Media and Found Objects measuring 7"H. x 6"W priced at $65. It is available at On the Edge Gallery or direct from the artist at jnassano@cox.net.

"The Gift"

This angel starts with an old barn door hinge (one of my favorite things!), a rusty metal butterfly and a cookie cutter, but the gift she brings you comes on the wings of flowers and moonlight!

"The Gift" is Mixed Media and Found Objects measuring 10"H. x 4"W priced at $65. It is available at On the Edge Gallery or direct from the artist at jnassano@cox.net.

"Blended Family"

I love this piece, which pays homage to the many 'blended' families in the world these days. So here's my story of the characters (made of bits & pieces from everywhere) in this newly blended family: From the left, first we see the little punk, tween boy on his skateboard with his bike helmut and his game deck.  He's doing fine in his own little world.  Then there's Dad, who's rushing to bring Mom a glass of wine because he knows how 'un-hinged' she gets, and Mom, who has a close eye on her little girl with the button-face, who's reaching up to pull her brother back into the family.  Her brother, the 'wayward son' is a tall, skinny teenager, with bad posture and his baseball cap on backwards.  He can't wait to get the heck out there! The wood they are mounted on and the triangle of chain hanging over them represents the house and the roof they live under.  Know any families like this?  :-)

Mixed Media, Found Objects by Jane Nassano.  $95, 10"w. x 5"h. plus chain. Available at On the Edge Gallery or direct from the artist at jnassano@cox.net.

"Dance, Angel, Dance!"

This piece was created from an antique spoon, broken china, glass & jewelry beads, this angel is nothing if not HAPPY!

Mixed Media, Found Object, 8"(h) x 5"(w), $65. It is available at On the Edge Gallery or direct from the artist at jnassano@cox.net.

"Christmas Ornaments Are Here!"

Always fun making these from thrown-away things found on the ground! You gotta love the snowman made from rusty washers! Decorate your tree with American-made recyclables, for a change from the 'Made in China' glitter & glam!

Mixed Media, Found Objects by Jane Nassano.

$6-$12 each

Available at On the Edge Gallery or direct from the artist by calling 602-446-6626.

"Nancy & Jane"

Recently my best friend (of 46 years!) had a birthday, so I decided to make her a little work of art about best friends. I had this cool, curly piece of metal that looked like arms wrapped around each other. As I got further into the project I realized I should make it about us.  So - here's "Nancy & Jane" in all our glory :-)  (She cried when she got it, she loved it so much! :-)

Nancy is the one on the left, with the green eyes, hips that swivel (like crazy!) wearing her favorite color, purple.  Jane is the one on the right, wearing gawdy, mis-matched prints with fringe and too many accessories.  (Remember that now!)

Of course I had to include a reference to our favorite band.  Notice the green bug (yep, he's real) carrying the apple, on Nancy's left arm…. do I have to tell you?

"Nancy & Jane"  Found Object/Mixed Media  8"h x 6"w, NFS  - but you can see more pieces like it at On the Edge Gallery in Old Town Scottsdale and at the Sonoran Small Works Show at the Sonoran Arts League Center for the Arts in Stagecoach Village, Cave Creek, AZ from Dec. 1st - Jan. 7th.

"Earth Angel"

"Earth Angel" was  commissioned by a client who will donate this and several more of my 'angels', to an auction to benefit a homeless women's and children's shelter in the Chicago area. "Earth Angel" is made from found objects, the most notable being the iron barn door hinge I found on my cousins farm this summer, also in the Chicago area.  Nice that we can all empower each other. :-)
